Operations - Energy
SAFETY TRAINING DATA

Company-wide, RPM has programs in place to audit and optimize operational systems and processes that use significant amounts of energy, such as those used for compressed air, heating and cooling, water and facility control.

Here are some of the ways RPM businesses are using energy more efficiently:

  • Lighting upgrades: Installing long-lasting energy-efficient lighting and motion-sensor lighting;
  • Building upgrades: Updating facilities with improved insulation and weatherization;
  • Equipment repair/replacement: Replacing aging equipment, such as boilers, with new units to reduce energy usage, eliminate leaks and maximize efficiency;
  • Plant consolidation: Consolidating inefficient plants with less energy-efficient equipment into more energy-efficient facilities; and
  • Automation: Investing in automation to drive manufacturing efficiencies and reduce landfill waste.

Sustainability has always been a vital part of our product innovation process at RPM. For decades, our operating companies have led their industries with novel solutions that renew, repair and protect materials using sealants and coatings. Building a Better World means continually investing in safer, greener products and processes that benefit our customers, end users and the environment. Some of those investments include:

  • Recyclable packaging and materials that reduce waste and give new life to leftover products;
  • Sustainable building solutions that encourage building restoration and repair over replacement;
  • Energy-conscious manufacturing processes that conserve energy and shrink the carbon footprint of our products;
  • Greener chemistries that reduce or eliminate potentially hazardous chemicals and materials of concern;
  • Products designed to improve the energy efficiency of structures; and
  • Products to extend the life of everything from mailboxes, to patio furniture, to roofs.

How RPM IS BUILDING A BETTER WORLD

Viapol Biomass
BIOMASS USAGE CUTS GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS BY 90%

By converting to biomass as its fuel source, Viapol cut its annual greenhouse gas emissions from 6,250 tons down to 650—a nearly 90% reduction—at its plant in Caçapava, Brazil.

Prime Resins Lighting
PRIME RESINS LIGHTING

Various RPM facilities have implemented efforts to move to high efficient LED bulbs various facilities.  Prime Resins, API and Rust-Oleum US are a few examples.
